I have operated Poway Pet Care for almost 15 years. Before that, I was pet sitting In Issaquah, Washington for 5 years. I make daily visits to clients’ homes and also board dogs in my own home, where they live as members of the family, not in kennels. I have over 75 regular customers, and consider them my friends as well as clients.

I have cared for many species and breeds of pets. My own animals include four dogs, two cats, two box turtles, and four horses. I am a member of Pet Sitters International, Petsitters Assoc. LLC, and the Dog Writers Association of America. I also serve as a volunteer mounted park ranger for the City of Poway. I am a mature adult, licensed, insured and certified in Red Cross Pet & Human First Aid and CPR.

Formerly a professional dog trainer, I have volunteered for all-breed dog rescue, fostering over 300 dogs over the years (I no longer foster dogs). I have served as a board member for several humane societies and pet rescue organizations in California and Seattle. In 2001, I received Channel 10 San Diego's Leadership Award for my volunteer work.

I will make daily visits to care for your pets, pick up the mail, turn on lights, water plants, etc. I will let your pets in at night and out in the morning, and make midday visits also if you like. I do not charge extra for administering medications or other special needs. I will also walk your dogs or just spend time cuddling and brushing them. I usually stay about 1/2 hour per visit.

RATE: $17 per visit in Poway

I am no longer accepting new clients for visits in Rancho Bernardo, but I can refer you to some excellent pet sitters in that area if you would like to contact me.

Dog Boarding In My Home

Terry Albert I am at home most of the time with the dogs. I try to keep a maximum of six visiting dogs. Dogs are not kenneled. They are treated as members of the family, and come and go indoors and out as they wish during the day. I have a large yard where they can play or rest, and a separate patio area where small or quiet dogs can get away from the rowdy ones. Small dogs are always inside unless I am outside with them.

All dogs sleep indoors, either loose or crated as needed (depending on the dog!). I provide toys, beds and food, unless you would like to bring your own to make your dog more comfortable. No extra charge for administering medications or dealing with other special needs. Dogs are always separated at feeding time.

Please book a free consultation with your dog to look at my setup and determine if your dog is compatible with this arrangement. Dogs MUST be able to live peacefully with other dogs! All vaccines and flea control must be up-to-date.

RATE: $40 PER DAY. Two dogs from the same family: $70. I charge by the day, not by the night. For example, if you drop off your dog on Thursday night and pick him up on Monday morning, that is three days: Fri-Sat-Sun, not four nights. I do not charge for a full day if you pick your dog up by noon the day he (or she) is going home. 10% discount for boarding 10 days or more, 20% discount for boarding over 20 days.

$5 surcharge for major holiday weekends, per dog per day, on New Year’s Eve and New Year's Day, Easter weekend, Memorial Day weekend, 4th of July, Labor Day weekend, Thanksgiving weekend, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Dog Boarding with our Caregivers

Now you have a choice of places for your dog to stay on his or her doggie vacation! In a continuing effort to better serve my clients and provide superior care for your pets, I am adding additional caregivers to Poway Pet Care. These caregivers will be available to board one or two dogs at a time in their homes, providing a quieter environment for dogs that prefer it, and providing backup when I am fully booked. I will still be boarding dogs too, but now you will have a choice of where you would like your dog to stay. I will continue to handle all scheduling and will keep in regular contact with both clients and caregivers. Dog owners will meet with their chosen caregiver in the caregiver’s home to be sure the arrangement will work for both parties.

Judy with her dogs As of right now, I have my first caregiver on board. Judy Maraventano lives here in Poway and has worked for a doggie daycare in Carlsbad. She comes highly recommended, and also will be filling in here at the house for me occasionally when I have to be away for a few hours. Judy lives in Poway with her three older dogs, Kiva, Giselle and Ellie May. She is retired and home most of the time. She would like to care for larger (over 30 pounds) dogs that are not fence jumpers, because she has a 4 ft. fence. Contact me if you would like to board your dog with Judy!
